Synopsis
When romantic help is needed, turn to the French – just beware of the “wisdom” doled out by pretentious French directors. That’s what some distressed Londoners discover in the delightful culture-clash comedy FRENCH FILM. The 10-year relationship between writer Jed (Hugh Bonneville, Iris, Notting Hill) and magazine editor Cheryl (Victoria Hamilton, Scoop) hits a wall when she rejects his long-delayed marriage proposal. Meanwhile, Jed’s friend Marcus (Douglas Henshall, Dorian Gray) and his alluring girlfriend Sophie (Anne-Marie Duff, Nowhere Boy) are also stuck in the doldrums. Advice for reigniting everyone’s passion comes in the words and films of pompous Gallic auteur and self-appointed love expert Thierry Grimandi (soccer star Eric Cantona), the subject of Jed’s next article. Getting lost in translation was never so hilarious.
