Synopsis

World War I and the Interwar Years includes the classic silent film The Battle of Ypres. Produced in 1925, the film chronicles the three terrible World War I battles fought near the Belgian town of Ypres (pronounced “wipers” by the British soldiers who fought and died there).

The Archives of War is a fascinating four-volume collection of wartime images ranging from the trenches of World War I, through the unparalleled destruction of World War II, to the Cold War’s atomic arsenals. Most of this material, shot on 35mm film by British Pathe´ News, has never been seen by U.S. audiences. Thus it offers a fresh visual treatment of the major conflicts in the 20th century.

The film was distributed in Europe but never released in the United States. Now, more than 70 years after it was made, this rediscovered classic appears for the first time in this country as part of the Archives of War collection.

This volume also includes material on the treatment of “war neurosis,” the rise of Nazi power, the Spanish Civil War and the Sino-Japanese War.
