Art Carney

Honeymooners Art CarneyArt Carney began his career in music, doing impressions and tap dancing in nightclubs until he landed a steady job with Horace Heidt's orchestra. Radio work, live shows and records followed until he was drafted into the Army.

After sustaining a leg injury during the Allied invasion at Normandy, Carney returned to the U.S. and began acting in radio dramas. He was spotted by Jackie Gleason on The Morey Amsterdam Show and recruited for Gleason's Cavalcade of Stars, where he assumed the character of Ed Norton.

Carney also played many other fine roles during his career. He performed on Broadway in The Odd Couple and was cast in several feature films in both comic and dramatic roles. He won an Oscar in 1974 for his role in Harry and Tonto. He also did guest spots on Batman, The Twilight Zone and a number of television movies and specials. Carney won six Emmy Awards, five for his roles on The Jackie Gleason Show and The Honeymooners, and a sixth in 1984 for a television movie role.

 


Joyce Randolph

Honeymooners Joyce RandolphJoyce Randolph was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 21, 1925. She joined her first road company at 19 and soon after began acting in small parts on Broadway. She made the jump to television in the late 40s by getting steady work on The Colgate Comedy Hour, Four Star Review and Cavalcade of Stars. In 1952, Randolph landed her regular role as Trixie Norton on The Jackie Gleason Show.

She remained with the show until 1957, when she slowed down her acting career to focus on her marriage to advertising executive Richard Charles. Randolph has appeared in several commercials over the years and made a guest appearance on Hi Honey, I'm Home in 1991. She also made numerous appearances at events for TV Land including the New York City edition of TV Land's “Ultimate Fan Search” in 1999 and the Fifth Anniversary celebration of the network in 2001.
